Riding a lap with your team
Friday, 11 November 2011 22:55
RULE UPDATES 15/11/11
So you may have read or heard some rumours by now that we will be introducing a Team Lap at this years Garmin24hr. For 10 years now we've (yes we ride too) been heading off to 24hr events with our friends and then for 24hrs we don't even get a chance to ride a lap with them! It's sad and become a little well, same same.
So at this years event we are introducing the Team Lap. It's your time to ride with ALL of your team mates, together out on the course. It'll be a chance to have a laugh and encourage each other, as friends, as teammates. It's also your chance to earn some bonus laps.
Of course there are a few guidelines to help us all understand how it's going to roll out. Call them rules, regulations, words to live by for 24hrs...
1. At sometime during the 1st 12hours and again at some point during the 2nd 12hours each team has the option of riding ONE lap together for a total of TWO Team Laps completed during the Garmin24hr
2. Teams must remain within a total of 0-100m of each other other, measured from first to last rider (call it a safety thing, call it comraderie, call it a rule).
3. Teams must start the Team Lap together.
4. Teams must finish the Team Lap together (within the 100m limit).
5. The lap must be ridden with the entire team ensemble (ie if you are in a team of 6, then your 6 riders must ALL be out on course at once), keeping within a total of 100m of each other (nose to tail). If you are duo, then both of you are out.... etc . Solo riders continue as 'normal'.
6. The teams dictate when they will attempt the Team Lap, but shall not leave on the Team Lap until their 'active' rider has completed the current lap. (see Regulation #3)
7. As long as the team leaves before midnight on their first Team Lap, and then leaves after midnight on their 2nd Team Lap then they may ride the Team Lap back to back thereby fulfilling Regulation #1.
8. Upon completion of the Team Lap, teams may not send out their next (active/normal) rider until all members of the team have completed the Team Lap. (see Regulation #4).
9. Each Team Lap tally will be related to your team size. 6 Person Team= 6 laps counted per Team Lap, 3 Person Team= 3 laps counted per Team Lap etc etc. Tally is subject to Regulation #10 (Can you ride more than the 2 Team Laps in the event? No, See Regulation #1).
10. Failure to complete a lap within a Team Lap (due to mechanicals, punctures, accidents etc) will result in not only that lap not counting, but also a penalty lap being deducted from the team tally. Eg; Team Not So Fast, send out 6 riders, one rider punctures and the team decide to leave him behind to walk back to camp via the checkpoints & fireroads. When they cross the line, it's counted as 5 laps minus one lap penalty, so thereby only contributing 4 laps to their tally.
11. Teams will not be penalised for not undertaking a Team Lap, other than not earning any bonus laps associated with completing said Team Laps. Think of it as a bonus.
It will pay to stay together; ride carefully, considerately and safely.
Dinner @ The Redesdale
Monday, 07 November 2011 11:36
Our good friends (hey who wouldn't make friends with the publican, they are also the Redesdale Estate Winery!) are providing riders and supporters with an easy option for dinner over the weekend of the Garmin 24hr.
At only $20, it's an easy alternative.
Bar specials menu.
· Burger with the lot & Chips
or
· Beef & red wine pie with green beans
or
· Bangers and mash
or
· Vegetarian Gnocchi with watercress, zucchini & tarragon butter
with either a glass of wine or A Pot of beer or a glass of soft drink
If you book ahead then the pub will hold your reservation, if you don't then you may have to wait. The food at the pub is sensational, we've been eating there everynight during our many weekends of trailbuilding. Their details are on their website, click their logo above.

Like the nightlife? Like to boogie? The GARMIN 24HR is the ultimate test of mountain biking endurance...or a great excuse to go camping with your mates and ride all weekend!! It’s all about the singletrack. It’s all about having fun with your mates. For the solo mountain biker, it is the ultimate mental and physical test. Does anyone win? It's pretty simple really, it's a race in which the competitor/s with the most laps after 24 hrs of riding wins. |
