Each rider must have the following equipment whilst on the course

  • Serviceable mountain bike (preferably a Kona!),
  • Australian Standards certified cycling helmet,
  • 1 full water bottle (Camelbaks allowed).
  • Additionally between the hours of 7:30pm - 6:30am one functioning front light, one functioning rear light and a spare white light. Race officials hold the right to alter the "Lights On" times, in reaction to course conditions.

  • Eyewear for protection (with different lenses if you have; sunny/dark lens, dusk/orange lens, night/clear lens) we recommend Rudy Project eyewear with inter-changeable lenses.
  • Tool kit with spare tube and basic tools to ensure you can get back to camp if something breaks.

What to expect?

Just because it's 24hrs long doesn't mean that everyone has to ride for 24hrs!!!! For the majority of participants their team rides as a relay team, with one 'active' rider at a time. The rest of the time the team sits back, basks in the afterglow of post lap euphoria before putting the drinks and food aside in time for another lap.

The sporting part of the Kona 24hr MTB event revolves around a massive relay, where solo riders or teams of up to ten people compete to ride as many laps as possible in a 24 hour time frame. Whether you're a strong rider, or a recreational rider, our categories have been designed to accommodate all levels. The majority of riders are considered to be "weekend warriors", people who work full time and enjoy being active on weekends.

You can choose to race as a Solo rider, or create a team of up to 6 people, depending on the level of endurance you wish to compete at. Each participant is required to complete only one lap, however, the team's objective is to complete as many laps as possible within the 24-hour time frame.

Feedback from past Kona 24hr's

"Firstly, congrats on a great event.  Setting up camp is so easy at this site, it makes for a stress free start. The track was in top condition, no mud and no dust until a little bit near the end of the race made for perfect riding. The facilities and general organisation were all spot on, great work."

"Thanks for a fantastic run event! The course was excellent; you know it is good when you feel like you are riding the track for the first time after 20 odd hours (maybe that's just a delirious sleep deprived mind playing tricks)."

"Had an absolute ripper time at the race, the vibe was totally awesome, everybody I spoke had a great, positive, happy vibe.  The track was unbeatable, had a blast!"

"As a first time competitor in such an event I thought it appropriate to write to you ("you" - meaning the staff and volunteers) who organised race on the weekend and offer my thanks and appreciation for the wonderful event that you put on. Having raced in other endurance events I was blown away by the friendly atmosphere around the event, and I can only surmise that it all starts at the top.
So once again thank you to all the staff and volunteers that put on such a professional event."

"Hi guys just wanted to say thanks for a gr8 race on the weekend, my first solo 24 and enjoyed every minute of it."
