Kona 24 Hour

The Kona 24hr is an off road endurance mountain bike race for solo entrants, plus relay teams of either 2,3,4,6 or 10 people of any level of ability. If you own a mountain bike then this event is for you.

Does anyone win? It's pretty simple really, it's a race in which the competitor/s with the most laps after 24 hrs of riding wins.

  What to expect?

Just because it's 24hrs long doesn't mean that everyone has to ride for 24hrs!!!! For the majority of participants their team rides as a relay team, with one 'active' rider at a time. The rest of the time the team sits back, basks in the afterglow of post lap euphoria before putting the drinks and food aside in time for another lap.

The sporting part of the Kona 24hr MTB event revolves around a massive relay, where solo riders or teams of up to ten people compete to ride as many laps as possible in a 24 hour time frame. Whether you're a strong rider, or a recreational rider, our categories have been designed to accommodate all levels. The majority of riders are considered to be "weekend warriors", people who work full time and enjoy being active on weekends.

You can choose to race as a Solo rider, or create a team of up to 10 people, depending on the level of endurance you wish to compete at. Each participant is required to complete only one lap, however, the team's objective is to complete as many laps as possible within the 24-hour time frame.

Solo
One person that rides as much as he/she wants during the 24 hour period. There are a limited number of solo spots available so register early to avoid disappointment.

2 Person
Two riders(Either all Male, All Female or mixed) of any skill level can enter. We recommend that only strong riders enter the 2 Person category. Each rider can expect to ride 10-14 hours each. (Male, Female and Mixed Pair options)

3 Person Open
Three people of any skill level can enter. Each rider can expect approximately 8 hours of riding. There are no sub-categories within the threesomes.

4 Person
Four people (Either all male, all female or mixed- being at least one from the opposite sex) of any skill level can enter. Each rider can expect 6 hours of riding.

6 Person
Six People (Either all male, all female or mixed). There must be at least one person from the opposite sex to qualify for a mixed team. Each rider can expect 4-5 hours of riding. This is where it's at, Most Professional teams race the Kona24hr as teams of 6.

Open Team
Ten People (unisex). There are no sub categories. Each rider can expect 2-3 hours of riding.

Note: An important element to team dynamics and enjoying the event is to join or start a team with people who have the same objective in mind. Someone who wants to win on the same team with someone who is there for the social aspect can lead to conflict. Only you can determine team dynamics.

  Feedback from past Kona 24hr's

"Firstly, congrats on a great event.  Setting up camp is so easy at this site, it makes for a stress free start. The track was in top condition, no mud and no dust until a little bit near the end of the race made for perfect riding. The facilities and general organisation were all spot on, great work."

"Thanks for a fantastic run event! The course was excellent; you know it is good when you feel like you are riding the track for the first time after 20 odd hours (maybe that’s just a delirious sleep deprived mind playing tricks)."

"Had an absolute ripper time at the race, the vibe was totally awesome, everybody I spoke had a great, positive, happy vibe.  The track was unbeatable, had a blast!"

"As a first time competitor in such an event I thought it appropriate to write to you (“you” - meaning the staff and volunteers) who organised race on the weekend and offer my thanks and appreciation for the wonderful event that you put on. Having raced in other endurance events I was blown away by the friendly atmosphere around the event, and I can only surmise that it all starts at the top.
So once again thank you to all the staff and volunteers that put on such a professional event."

"Hi guys just wanted to say thanks for a gr8 race on the weekend, my first solo 24 and enjoyed every minute of it."
